Dr. S. Scott Newman, D.C.: Professional Credentials and Clinical Expertise
Dr. Newman started Golden State Medical Center in San Ramon CA March 1990. The founding vision has always been to help people get out of pain and to encourage and teach patients to strive for better health through better lifestyle decisions.
Our ultimate mission is to educate, teach, and encourage patients to adopt healthier lifestyles and provide state-of-the-art treatments like regenerative medicine, functional medicine, chiropractic, and physical rehabilitation, etc. To get well quicker and more fully, provide wellness activities, and nutrition for optimizing health. We specialize in treating chronic conditions, whether treating musculoskeletal pain through physical medicine or gut, brain, hormone, cardiovascular and blood-glucose conditions through functional medicine.
Every patient is different and needs a unique, personalized treatment plan that corrects all the causes and contributing factors, not just addressing the symptoms. Our treatments are personalized, and we always take the time with our patients to focus on all root causes and contributing factors to figure out treatments to correct the root causes and contributing factors, and then optimize health with lifestyle enhancements, wellness hacks, and nutrition.
There is not one since we treat the whole body. Combining regenerative medicine and functional medicine to optimize results sets us apart.
We approach every client as a unique individual with different genetics and epigenetic factors. This is shown through the thorough consultation, comprehensive examination, leading to personalized diagnostics and treatment plans.
Every day is an adventure for our staff since every person is different and has unique needs and wants with their healthcare.
The one thing we want our patients to know about us is that we will do everything to solve their health challenges, and we will always go the extra mile to help encourage our patients to strive for wellness.
Our biggest success is helping our patients with chronic health conditions, where they are looking at a surgery or taking drugs for their symptoms and getting their health back in equilibrium, resulting in them not needing the surgery or drugs because the root cause was corrected and the symptoms abated.
Dedicated to patients’ health outcomes.
Building trust with our patients is achieved by being honest with them all the time, by doing what you say you will do, and by always being there for them.
Yes, Dr. Newman has had low back pain on and off since he was a teenager. He found out later he had a congenital defect that caused a fracture in one of my lower vertebrae. My body tried to compensate by forming scar tissue to hold it in place; however, it created a slight instability, causing his muscles to tighten up at times, causing his sacroiliac joints to frequently lock up, leading to lower back pain. Luckily, his mom took him to a chiropractor, and Dr.Newman got relief from his lower back pain. Later in life, the fibrous tissue broke, leading to significant instability. Eventually, he had to have a fusion in his lower back. Unfortunately, this led to neuropathy and chronic lower back pain. Dr.Newman then found regenerative medicine, which corrected the damaged tissue, and his lower back pain was solved and hasn’t come back since.
In the past, Dr.Newman has been heavily involved in the chamber of commerce and some other local groups. This helped his business grow but he also developed lifelong friends because of it. It also gave Dr.Newman a chance to help many people improve their health.
Deciding to go into chiropractic was a narrowing-down experience for Dr. Newman. He had positive experiences with chiropractic as a child, but that alone did not inspire him to pursue it as a career. By the time he graduated from high school, he knew he loved biological science and decided to study marine biology. While volunteering at Bodega Marine Lab, he noticed the marine biologists were very stressed due to “publish or perish,” as they described it, which led him to explore other directions. He realized he enjoyed helping people and considered becoming a medical doctor.
A school counselor advised him that, as a white, male, middle-class student, he would need to demonstrate a strong commitment to medicine through volunteering and academic achievements. Dr. Newman followed this guidance: he became president of the honor society, volunteered in the adaptive P.E. program, and worked at a hospital. His time in the hospital left a strong impression—he admired the nurses and patients but noticed that doctors sometimes seemed disconnected from patient care. Most impactful for him was witnessing patient deaths from infections, which made him realize he did not want to work in hospitals.
At this stage in his life, Dr. Newman was deeply interested in health, fitness, and triathlons. A friend’s roommate, who was a chiropractor, took him to a chiropractic research conference, and he was inspired to pursue chiropractic as a career. After graduating from U.C. Davis with a degree in Biochemistry, Dr. Newman attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
Dr. Newman decided to pursue a career in medicine during his late high school years, after realizing he loved biological science and enjoyed helping people. His early experiences volunteering at a hospital and observing patient care shaped his desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s health.
Dr. Newman’s inspiration came from a combination of personal and professional experiences. As a child, he benefited from chiropractic care for his own back issues, which left a lasting impression. Later, volunteering in hospitals exposed him to the challenges patients face and the impact of compassionate care. His passion for health, fitness, and helping others ultimately led him to pursue a career in chiropractic and integrative medicine, where he could treat the root causes of health issues and optimize wellness for his patients.
